Bozar’s season celebrating Mex­ican culture launches with an exhibition devoted to one of the country’s most illustrious artists. Frida Kahlo (1907-54) is as well remembered for her complicated personal life—her fragile health, ties to the Mexican Communist Party and turbulent marriage to fellow artist Diego Rivera—as for her introspective self-portraits which are peppered with symbolism and self-determination. This exhibition focuses not only on Kahlo’s oeuvre but on her life, as well as the vibrant cultural scene in Mexico in the early 20th century.
